A Second Chance: A Day With the Dogs of Arundawn Rescue

Recently. I spent the day visiting Arundawn Dog Rescue in Horsham. A Sanctuary dedicated to giving dogs who have faced difficult pasts a second chance. When you step into a rescue environment, you immediately feel the spectrum of emotions in the air.

Why patience matters in dog photography

My goal wasn’t to rush in with a camera, but simply meet them where they were - in hope of capturing them in their true state. Rather than forcing an interaction, I sat in an open field and waited. Patience is everything in pet photography, especially with rescue dogs. Sitting on the ground, lowers your presence and signals to a nervous dog that you are not a threat. Some dogs were curious and wanted to come and say hello and others were more cautious, carrying the weight of their unknown pasts in their steps.

Watching their personalities unfold at their own pace was incredible to watch and being trusted to capture those raw, honest expressions was something that I will not forget.

How you can help support Arundawn rescue

Arundawn does extraordinary work giving these dogs the love and time they need to heal whilst waiting for their forever homes or are part of their ‘Shelter Programme’. Every dog deserves a fresh start and a second chance. If you have been thinking about opening up your home and heart to a rescue or would like to support the vital work they do every day:
